Construction Journal
On Palm Sunday morning, March 16, we will go “over the wall” into our new Worship Room
and begin a new chapter in the Chapel’s history.
New Facility Map
Throughout the bricks-and-mortar construction process, maps have helped us navigate around
our facility. Now, a new “map” will lead us on the journey over the wall and beyond. Here are the main mileposts on the map:
Sunday, March 9: Student Ministry Commissioning - we will celebrate with our students as they prepare to move their ministry into our current Worship Room the following Sunday.
Wednesday, March 12: The Moody Chorale concert is the premiere event in the new Worship Room.
Palm Sunday, March 16: Our "Triumphal Entry" into the new Worship Room. That evening, Minister of Worship, Ted Cornell, will lead us in a time of Praise & Worship in our new Worship Room.
Good Friday, March 21: The choir will present Tenebrae, a moving musical reflection on the life and death of Christ.
Easter Sunday, March 23: Join us to celebrate our Lord's resurrection.
March 30: With our new, larger facility, we will return to a two-service format.
Grab your map at the Chapel this Sunday, or click here to download one, and get ready to head "Over the Wall and Beyond."
Each November at Williamsburg Community Chapel, we celebrate what the Lord has done in our community over the past year. In 2008 we decided to look back over the past five years in our family of faith.
Five years ago, the Chapel family set out on a journey of obedience. God called us to expand our bricks-and-mortar facility so that we could continue to make disciples among the new people that God continued to add to our church family. Many of the current Chapel family were here when we set out on this journey; with 20% numerical growth in 2008 alone, we know that many were not. For all of us, an important question remains: Is our journey of obedience actually paying off?
We affirm that the answer is a resounding “Yes!” Week-in and week-out, the staff team, elders, and deacons benefit from daily time with many members of the Chapel family, during which we see and hear about God’s miraculous work.
Nursery Facilities in the new building are now open!
Click here to download a complete, updated diagram of the facility and locations for each Children's Ministry program. (This is a larger file and may take a moment to download.)
Though crews are not quite to the “finishing-touches” stage, they recently reached some major milestones. Concrete for the risers for seating in the back (bottom floor) and the risers for balcony seating has been poured and is curing. All of the sheetrock has been hung and painted, and the ceiling grid is being installed. The catwalk over the future platform is finished, and the proscenium that hides it and that houses speakers is nearly complete. A few speakers are even hanging in the proscenium already. Acoustic treatment installation, platform construction, and audio-video installation are all underway.
As of September 23, 2007, the new bricks and mortar expansion is open to minister to our youngest Living Stones.
Click here to download a detailed diagram of the new Children's Ministry facilities.
Due to construction, beginning Sunday, August 14, the hallway immediately outside of the nursery-side Worship Room doors will be closed to through traffic. A temporary passageway has been established that will lead you to the Education Wing. This change is an integral part of the Education Wing renovation and expansion that will provide more space for the children. Thank you for your patience as we continue to grow in order to better minister of our youngest Living Stone.
Click here for a detailed map of the new pathway to the Education Wing.
During the month of June, progress was made on the renovation of the Education Wing and the nursery expansion. The kitchenette across from Woodward Hall was gutted and walls were torn down between rooms. The footings, foundation, and slab have been placed for the nursery expansion outside the current Education Wing, and work is being done on the roof to tie in the addition with the existing building. Site work is in progress in the parking lot, and curbs have been installed.
Inside the facility expansion, contractors have continued with plumbing and electrical work, as well as installing drywall and bathroom tile. The frame of the covered porticoes have also been erected at the three new entrances.
Click on the slide show to the left to see recent construction photos.
Site work began this week on our Education Wing expansion which will increase the size of the facility, as well as improve check-in and security functions of our nursery. Check for updates at the Kid's Kingdom and Promiseland check-in points, in the bulletin, and on the Building the Church website each week for upcoming changes in that area.
Trees were moved this week from the Ed Wing side of our building to the south side in order to prepare for next week's construction. The hallway will remain in use for the next few weeks, but will be blocked off when construction has reached a point where that is necessary.
On the interior of the ongoing facility expansion, the structural steel for the Worship Room catwalks were erected, fireproofing continued, and drywall was installed in more areas of the building. The equipment for the new elevator arrived on site and will be installed in the coming weeks.
Videos and slide shows will continue to be posted to this website as progress warrants it. For past visual updates, click on the links to your left. To watch the "We Are the Chapel" video, click here.
For an updated construction video, please click the most recent video clip on the left. If you were not able to join one of our Hard Hat Tours, have a glimpse of the tour experience by clicking on the slide show to your left. There were seven stations set up throughout the existing and expanded facility during the tours where participants were given a vision for the ministries that are and will be happening in each particular space. Stations included a Student Ministries station in our current Worship Room, a children's ministry station which included the plans for the renovation of the Education Wing, and adult and Promiseland classrooms. Participants had the opportunity to pray over our new Worship Room from the balcony and to view videos of living stones who have come to know the Lord through the ministries here at the Chapel. If you missed the tours and would like the opportunity to walk through the expanded facility and pray in that space yourself, please contact Barb Stewart (941-1562 | bstewart@wcchapel.org). Here are a few quotes from tour participants:
"I was blown away by the number of kids that are ministered to in our student program
each week."
"What touched me the most were the ministry stations."
"This was more than a Hard Hat Tour--it was really a virtual ministry tour."
"After seeing the vision of all the ministries we have going on, I knew I wanted to be a part
of what God is doing at the Chapel."
Many of you had the chance to see the facility expansion firsthand during the Hard Hat Tours. Hopefully, you can visit our website now with new eyes--eyes that have a vision for the ministry which will take place in the rooms we show you in pictures and video each week. If you aren't doing so, please pray faithfully for this construction and the individuals working on it. Click on the link to the left to see this week's photos of sidewalk prep, the building exterior, and the elevator shaft. Also notice the photos showing the steel being welded for the catwalks in the new Worship Room.
More Sheetrock has been installed this week, and the downstairs and upstairs classrooms are taking shape. View this week's slide show to see photos of drywall in the classrooms and insulation in the Worship Room. Watch next week for a new construction video update.
Interior walls are under construction with the installation of insulation and drywall in some of the classrooms, both upstairs and down. Click on the slide show on the left to see the latest construction photos. Also check the latest video of the staff Hard Hat Tour last week, and be sure to sign up for a Hard Hat Tour when you get the invitation in the mail! We want you to visit the facility expansion and get as excited about it as we are!
Praise God--Sheetrock was hung in downstairs classrooms this week, and rooms are taking shape. On the interior, more ventilation ducts and plumbing pipes are hung and insulated, and more fireproofing has been sprayed. On the exterior, notice the EIFS (Exterior Insulation & Finish System), split-faced brick, and glass doors that were installed around the building. Click on the slide show to the left to see the progress, and watch for an updated construction video next week.
As the building takes shape, we want everyone who attends the Chapel to have the opportunity to go on site and see it first-hand. Be sure read the Bricks and Mortar insert in the bulletin this Sunday for more Hard Hat Tour information.
The first pictures published on this construction journal were published one year ago today! Look back at the first slide show and those in between to remember how far we've come. This week's photos are a panoramic view of the construction exterior. Click on this week's slide show on the left to view the photos.
On the exterior of the facility expansion, progress was made on the Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS) this week, as well as the roof. The split-faced brick on the exterior has extended around to the west side of the building. Click on the links to the left to view the video and photo update of this week's progress.
The new Worship Room was a busy place this week with large pieces of machinery coming and going. On the exterior, more glass windows were installed and on the interior, air conditioning/heating ducts were wrapped with insulation. The front, east and west entrances are all taking more shape, and the east entrance is taking on the final finished look, as masons install the exterior brick. Click on the video and the slide show to the left to view the updates.
The cement-block firewall is progressing, windows are being installed, and steel is almost completed on the entrance of the facility expansion. Work continues on the interior with metal wall framing, plumbing, and electrical installation. Click on the slide show to the left for photos from this week. Check back next week for an updated video.
The HVAC contractor was on site this week installing the large air conditioning units on the roof of the facility expansion. Interior work is continuing the same as the last two weeks, and the exterior face is progressing well, which you will notice as you drive through the east side parking lot. Click on the slideshow to the left to see photos of the exterior and the A/C unit installation. We are continuing to have technical difficulties with some of our equipment, but we hope to get the latest videos uploaded soon. Please check back next week.
Notice the east side of the building this week; you will see that the tarps have been removed from the side of the building and the windows have been installed. Metal door frames have been installed on the interior, and work continues with the installation of electrical, plumbing , and HVAC systems throughout the building. The job site was a busy one this week, as the contractor is working hard to get the exterior of the building dried-in. Click on the slide show to your left to see photos of the construction progress. The updated video will be online as soon as we are able to solve some technical difficulties. Thanks for your patience.
Construction continues, both inside and out, as we work to get the building dried-in. On the exterior, workers are continuing to erect steel beams, wall framing, and exterior walls; and to install roofing and windows. On the interior, they are working on plumbing, HVAC installation, fire protection systems, and metal wall framing. Be sure to click the link to the left for the video and slideshow to be posted later today for a complete update of the construction.
Watching the construction progress of a large building is often like watching grass grow. It is not always apparent what work has been accomplished from week to week, especially from the exterior of the building. This week, much of the progress was made on the roof and on the interior of the building. Several trades are working simultaneously in different areas of the building. Work is ongoing with cement placement, HVAC and plumbing installation, steel beam erection, metal wall framing, and roofing. Pray that the weather will hold so that the building will be "dried in" within a few short weeks.
As usual, you can see more cement and steel in place in the facility expansion this week. Cement block was delivered and masons began to rebuild the firewall at the end of the Education Wing this week. Erection of the exterior wall framing continued around the building and is now close to completion. Preparation also began for the placement of concrete slab for the Foyer to the new Worship Room. Click on the link to the left to see this week's video and slideshow update of the building construction.
Construction has progressed to the west entrance (Woodward Hall side) of the building addition this week. Steel was erected, metal decking was installed, and concrete slab was placed on Thursday at the entrance of the new Worship Room. Masons are also "cutting back" the existing firewall in order to tie in the section that they will rebuild. Click on the links to the left to view the slideshow and video update for this week.
This was a busy week on the construction site, as work was ongoing with steel, metal decking, concrete slab, scaffolding, and more. The steel frame for the expansion was extended this week around the end of the Education Wing and is now close to completion. Slab was placed for the floor of the Worship Room balcony, and scaffolding was begun for the erection of the concrete block firewall that was blown down in November. Click on the links to the left to view the video and slideshow for this week.
More steel was erected in the build-out of the front and side entrances of the new Foyer this week, and metal roof decking in that area is being welded as well. The west side entrance is the most complete; be sure to drive through the parking lot to look at the progress. For pictures of the progress, click on the slideshow to the left. Look for updated video footage next Friday.
The outline of all three entrances is now visible as the steel beams are in place all across the front of the facility expansion. Check the slideshow on the left to see photos of the entrance areas and a shot from inside the new Worship Room.
See how our Promiseland kids (K-5th grade) are getting involved in our Building the Church project. Monthly videos update the kids on the building construction and the amount of money they have given to the BTC with their tithes and offerings. Members of our church body have generously offered to multiply the children's funds by four times as an object lesson of how God multiplies what we give back to Him. Click on the following links to watch these videos Promiseland Video One | Promiseland Video Two and read "Bricks and Mortar" this Sunday to find out more.
Because the church office is closed next week for the Christmas holidays, our next web update will be on January 5. We pray that you have a Merry Christmas and a blessed 2007!
Tremendous progress was made this week in the new Worship Room construction. Click on the slideshow and video on your left to see all the steel joists and metal decking for the roof and floors. The outline of the balcony area, as well as the east entrance to the new Foyer, is now visible.
Friday, structural engineers certified that the precautionary closing of the Education Wing is no longer necessary. Work performed this week on the structural elements of the facility expansion satisfied the engineers' conditions of occupancy. Priase God for this good news and answer to prayer! Click on the slideshow to the left to see photos of the progress made this week!
Chapel family, please CLICK HERE on this link for important news about this Sunday's services:
We're not Jericho, but we did have a wall come a-tumblin' down. Thankfully, we have something Jericho didn't--insurance! Our strong wind storm last Sunday night blew down the section of firewall at the end of the Education Wing, but insurance adjusters have already surveyed the damage and cleanup has begun. Construction continued unhindered since no damage was done to the areas where work is ongoing at this point.
Concrete was placed on Friday for the new Worship Room and on the second floor decking. More steel and metal was erected, and more block was placed on the exterior. Notice the finished look on the exterior of the wall facing the Fireside Room parking lot when you come this Sunday.
Click on the slideshow and video on the left to see what the construction site looks like this week.
The HVAC subcontractor arrived onsite this week with truck loads of ventilation and AC equipment and began installation of duct work in the classroom and hallway areas. The plumbing subcontractor began hanging pipe in several areas, as the other contractors continued work as usual. Click on the video and slideshow to the left to see the progress that has been made. You will see quite a bit of exterior finish which matches our present building, as well as quite a bit of mud created by the rain this past week. Workers are drying out the new Worship Room area in order to place concrete there next week. Hopefully, the weather will allow that to take place.
More steel was erected in the new Worship Room, and progress was made around the building on the exterior finish. Split-faced brick was laid in the area outside the Fireside Room, and the beginning step to the EIFS (Exterior Insulation & Finish Sytems) was begun along the new Education Wing. Notice that the metal framing along that side has now been covered with the sheets of yellow board, which is the first step of the exterior finish. Click on the slideshow and video on your left to see photos of the progress made this week.
Steel beams were erected this week alongside the firewall, which will frame the new choir room and greenroom, both of which will be behind the choir loft of the new Worship Room. You can also see some finished sections of wall, both on the Education Wing side and on the front of our present building. This is the final phase of the EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish System) we have watched take shape the last few weeks. Some of the exterior walls now have the final color on them, which matches the color of our present structure. Click on the slideshow the left to see some before and after pictures of the firewall, and a video which will take you around the construction site as it now is.
If you haven't already done so, be sure to look at the firewall since the scaffolding has been taken down--it will give you an idea of how large a room it takes to fit 1500 people! Check the slideshow and video that will be posted later today to see pictures of the firewall from different angles. The orange braces are wind braces that will be taken down as the interior walls are being built.
Notice the wing on the parking lot side of the building expansion. You can actually see outlines of classrooms and hallways. What a thrill it is to watch the building take shape!
Work progressed on both the exterior and interior framing in the section of our building expansion that will be new classrooms. See photos of the framing and the fireproofing that was sprayed onto the metal studs in the slideshow and video to the left.
The 52' firewall that separates our current facility from the facility expansion was completed this week, and work began on the finish and insulation system on the exterior of the wall. View the video and slideshow on the left to see pictures of the yellow waterproofing sealant being painted on the exterior and a layer of styrofoam insulation being applied on top of that sealant. There are also pictures of the structural steel that was erected this week, which is the frame for the back wall of the new Worship Room.
Watch next week for scaffolding to come down and more exterior finish to go up, as progress continues with our building expansion. As we pray for the bricks and mortar process, may we also remember to pray for new Living Stones!
The construction site was a busy place this week. Contractors are working to dry in the electrical room so that electricity can be installed as soon as possible. You will see metal decking on the roof of that structure, as well as EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish Systems) on the exterior of the metal studs that were visible last week. Click on the link to the left to view photos of the interior of that room, and a video to get a "bird's eye" view of the second floor concrete slab. Praise God for the good weather and the diligent work of all the construction crews working on our building expansion.
More masonry wall, more steel beams, more concrete slab--click on the slideshow to the left to see pictures of the construction site to date. You will see a progression of pictures beginning at the end of the Education Wing, continuing around the construction site, and ending at the old office entrance to the building (Area D). You can see the first metal studs being erected for the exterior walls of the electrical room--the first room to be completed. You may also notice more concrete slab and more metal than last week. Pray for good weather so that the construction crews can stay on schedule to place even more slab next week.
In spite of the rain and mud this week, crews made quite a bit of progress on the facility expansion. The cement firewall on the Worship Room side is now within five feet of completion; it is also progressing down and around the end of the Education Wing.
Work began on the steel frame of the stairwell at the northeast corner of the site (by the current Fireside Room), and crews sprayed fireproofing on the steel columns and beams in Area D (by the old office-side entrance). Metal studs went up in Area D where the contractor is framing the exterior walls to provide finished space for the electrical room.
Pray for good weather so the ground will dry out and contractors can continue placing slab in the remaining areas, and for the safety and salvation of all workers who are helping to build our expanded facility.
You may have noticed that watching the construction of a large project is a lot like watching grass grow. Since we are now above ground with the construction, you will be seeing a lot more of the same--more steel, more concrete, and more masonry. Our first step in construction was underground prep work--plumbing, electrical, and audio-visual. When that "rough-in" was complete, the concrete contractor began placing slab. On that concrete foundation the steel contractor began erecting the structural steel beams and the masonry contractor began building the block firewall along the perimeter of the existing facility. This process of concrete, steel and masonry will continue simultaneously in all areas of the new construction, so each week you will see more of the same. Metal studs are now going up in Area D and you will soon see exterior walls going up in this area, outside the present offices and kitchen.
You can see step-by-step pictures of the slab being placed in Area A and pictures of the overall construction site by viewing our latest slideshow on the left.
As we watch our building grow, join me in praying for the new families God continues to bring to the Chapel. May He grow each of us in His word, His love, and His holiness as He makes us His Living Stones.
Work continued in Section A where the concrete slab was poured last week. Steel workers began erecting both the vertical and horizontal beams that will support the exterior walls of the new Worship Room. The concrete-block firewall that will separate the existing from the expanded facility approached its final height of 52 feet this week!
Dominion VA Power began underground work to prepare for installation of the new electrical transformer and brick masons made good progress on the cement-block firewall that will stand between the existing building and the facility expansion. The wall is now as high as the window of our present Worship Room and has begun down the length of the Education Wing.
Workers poured another portion of slab this week in the area that will become the front right corner of our new Worship Room. The slab will allow cement block and structural steel erection in that area. Inspectors test the content and breakage point of the concrete to verify that the foundation will be strong enough to support the structure on top of it. Praise God that we can rest in the knowledge that our Foundation is strong enough!
Click on the link to the left for this week's slideshow and video. We took some shots from the scaffolding to give you some aerial views. Be sure to check them out.
Even though this week’s rain soaked the construction site, workers made a great deal of progress. Soaked areas of the site were de-watered, and work continues on areas not affected by the downpour.
Work continued on the elevator shaft, and steel reinforcement was placed along the Education Wing in preparation for more concrete slab placement. Since the under-slab work for plumbing, electrical, and audio/visual are now complete, we are ready for concrete to be poured as soon as the site dries out, hopefully by the beginning of next week.
Scaffolding was erected along the concrete block wall. This wall is now close to the height of the Worship Room window and will continue along the length of the Education Wing.
This week, construction workers poured concrete footers for the elevator shaft walls. They also poured footers along the outline of the new Worship Room platform. On that foundation, they built forms for the concrete slab scheduled to be poured next week.
Brick masons are hard at work on the cement-block firewall that will stand between the existing building and the facility expansion. This week they began building the wall between the current and future Worship Rooms, and they will continue along the Education Wing in the days to come. Electricians also ran underground wiring for the new parking lot lights.
Click on the links to the left for slideshows of pictures from the construction site this week. There is no new video update this week due to staff vacations.
Praise God for the progress made thus far on our building expansion, and continue to pray for our growth in spiritual maturity as God builds His Church here at the Chapel, one Living Stone at a time.
Scorching temperatures didn't slow progress on the facility expansion. The roof of the old choir room was removed and awaits transport to a recycling facility. This brings demolition of the old choir room to a close and will allow construction of the cement-block firewall between our current and future Worship Rooms. Cement block and other materials were delivered this week; masons will begin construction of the firewall next week.
Work also began on the new facility's elevator shaft, and audio/visual conduit has been installed by the electrical contractor. In addition, parking lot asphalt was patched in areas where underground utility work occurred during the first few weeks of construction.
Click on the links to the left to see this week's video update and two slideshows of pictures from the construction site.
As the new bricks-and-mortar structure begins to take shape, pray that God will provide the remaining 5.5 million dollars needed to complete this project. Continue to pray for our growth in spiritual maturity as God builds His Church here at the Chapel, one Living Stone at a time.
I am excited to report that you will notice significant above-ground progress on the construction site the next time you come to the Chapel. This week, construction workers began erecting structural steel beams and columns in area D, by the old office-side entrance and the Fireside Room.
Click on the links to the left for a video presentation and two slideshows of pictures of the steel going up.
Because of the rain this week, removal of the windows in the Education Wing was rescheduled. Those of you who expected your classroom windows to be gone before Sunday can now enjoy them for one more week, but next week the contractor plans to remove and board up all the 1st and 2nd floor windows in the Education Wing on the side facing the construction site. Removal of these windows will facilitate the upcoming erection of a 50-foot fire wall between the existing building and the facility expansion.
This week's video update was also rained out, but check back here next week for pictures from the construction site and a new video update.
The parking and traffic flow on the Chapel property have reached a point of stability. There will be no major changes to the current parking and traffic flow for a considerable period of time. The only change that will occur over the next couple weeks is that a section of the back parking lot will be used by the contractor to store materials for the building project. As these materials arrive, the contractor will need this area to store, or "lay-down," these materials. Because of this, the driving aisle and row of parking spaces in the back of the new parking area will not be available once the contractor ropes it off as a "lay-down" area.
This will take away some parking and minimally affect the traffic flow, but there will still be plenty of parking around the facility and, as always, riding the Sunday Shuttle over from Jamestown High School is a great option.
Click here for an updated facility diagram with this new "lay-down" area marked off.
I'm happy to report that a lot of exciting bricks and mortar construction took place this week. Most notably, the vast majority of site work has been completed. Crews widened the tie-in lanes between the rear gravel parking area and the blacktop parking on the east and west sides of the Chapel. The rear gravel parking area was expanded to its final perimeter and additional parking spaces were added. Though the particulars of parking and traffic flow may vary slightly between now and the completion of our facility expansion (when the gravel areas will be paved), the new layout of our property as it will appear when all work is finished is now evident.
Access to the Education Wing through the fenced-in construction area is no longer possible. Therefore, pedestrian walkways are in place from the rear gravel area to the facility entrances on the east and west sides of the building. Click here for a diagram illustrating the new parking and traffic flow dynamics. Please take a moment to review it before you come to the Chapel on Sunday morning.
Most of the construction activity from this point forward will take place inside the construction fence as facility construction begins in earnest. Praise God for bringing us to this milestone!
God sent down "showers of blessing" on our Groundbreaking Celebration. Although rainy weather forced the picnic inside, a spirit of celebration was unmistakable among the 675 members of the Chapel family who gathered to commemorate the beginning of bricks-and-mortar construction. We enjoyed fellowship during a cookout dinner and ice cream, a bluegrass band provided musical entertainment, and Senior Pastor, Bill Warrick, led a lively hymn sing. Executive Administrator, Rob Campbell; Chairman of the Elders, Dave Rudy; Building Committee Chairman, David Stemann; and Building the Church Campaign Committee Chairman, Dave Anderson joined Bill on stage to conclude the evening with a Groundbreaking Ceremony.
The following report describes work that has been performed since the last report dated April 3, 2006 and work scheduled to be performed in the next two weeks
Here is a map to help you find the Jamestown High School parking lot and park there on Sunday mornings. One of the three Chapel Sunday Shuttle buses will pick you up at Jamestown and transport you straight to the Chapel doors. This will make a big difference in making parking spaces available for visitors, especially while the construction project is taking up spaces. This is a great way to get involved and help Build the Church.
Click here to download the Sunday Shuttle map.
Beginning Monday, April 17, Century Builders will begin the building addition along the east side of the existing building. The start of construction in this area, which is identified on the drawings as "Area D," will block off the existing Chapel Office Foyer and Fireside Room Entrance Doors. As directed by the county building inspector and fire marshall these exterior doors will only be available as emergency exit doors. The Front Entrance doors, Nursery Side Entrance Doors, Library Side Entrance Doors and Woodward Hall Side Entrance Doors will continue to provide access to the Chapel.
We are making a lot of progress on the new parking area and want to let you know why it is so important that we finish the parking area first before moving on to other aspects of the contruction process. Because the current parking area lies within the projected "footprint" of the new building, we have to finish the new parking area first in order to provide parking spaces while construction continues. Current parking spaces will be lost durng construction, so we are adding new parking spaces first before we move on to the next phase of construction.
The formal Notice to Proceed was issued to Century Builders Inc (CBI) to begin construction on March 15, 2006. The following work has been performed over the last two weeks: Emory Johnson, Project Superintendent arrived on site and scheduled C.A. Barrs (CAB), Warwick Plumbing & Heating (WPH), Coggins Electric (CE) and CTI Special Inspectors (CTI).
2-Week Report:
- CAB began work immediately on the Erosion & Sedimentation controls which were required to be installed before rough grading of the new parking areas began. CAB cleared and excavated the sedimentation pond #1 area located on the west side of the site, installed silt fence and began rough grading of the western half of the new parking area. CAB began rough grading of the new parking areas and performed proofroll of the existing subgrade with a loaded dump truck.
- Warwick Plumbing & Heating (WPH) visited the site and surveyed the existing HVAC equipment. WCC requested that the existing condensing unit being relocated not be placed outside of the senior pastors office window and asked if it could be mounted up on the roof. CBI and WPH will discuss with the designers and advise WCC.
- CAB continued rough grading and installation of geotextile fabric and stone for the new parking area. CAB pipe crew installed approximately 100 feet of 8-inch storm drain pipe.
- Coggins Electric (CE) met with Dominion Virginia Power (VP) to plan the electrical service upgrade. The first option is for Coggins to provide a temporary feed from the electrical room next to the fireside kitchen to the education wing electrical room. This will allow the electrical transformer which services the education wing and which is located in the footprint of the building addition to be removed. CE will investigate and advise CBI and WCC if this plan is feasible.
Ground is moving and construction equipment is humming on the Chapel property. It is exciting to see the construction phase of the Building the Church Campaign begin to take shape on the property. Fletcher Frye, the Chapel's Construction Administrator, and Emory Johnson, Century Builders' Project Superintendent, are working together to supervise the activity on the construction site.
In his first weekly video interview, Fletcher gave us a brief description of what has been accomplished in the past days and weeks and what to look forward to in the next phase of construction. This video is posted below and is the first in a series of updates we will provide here on the Construction Journal. A picture slideshow of Emory and Fletcher at the construction site is also available below.
